RENEE SPEARMAN & PROSPERITY
The name “PROSPERITY”
comes from the word Prosper that means favorable and conducive to success,
which is why singer/songwriter Renee Spearman chose the name
“PROSPERITY”. Joshua 1:8 says “This book of the law shall not depart
out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou
mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then
thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good
success”.
Renee
Spearman and Prosperity can be heard on Yolanda Adams’ 2001
Release, The Experience” on the track entitled “I BELIEVE I CAN
FLY” (Studio Version) a duet with Gerald Levert and on Gladys
Knight’s latest release, they can be heard on the track entitled “Greatest
Love Of All”. Written and Produced by Hot R&B /Hip Hop Producer Shep
Crawford, (whose work has appeared on albums By Whitney Houston, Boyz
II Men, Kelly Price, and others).
Renee
Spearman and Prosperity’s prior CD releases are contemporary and
creative, spiritual and soulful, trendy and touching; while their debut
single and album on the BlackSphere/Drae Entertainment label is
funky but faithful, energetic but endearing, and urban but undeniably
anointed.
Celebrate,
the current release, features soulful sounds, melodic voices, melodies that
climb intensely above the music, and beats that were creatively created by
Renee Spearman and Stellar Award Winner, Kenny Smith. The lyrics
are derived from traditional concepts, then transferred into contemporary
intensity, delivering the consistent message of God’s love through every
track.
Born to
Pastor Ernest Spearman and Evangelist Doll Spearman amid three sisters,
Renee was born in Lynwood, California. She later moved to Mount Vernon,
New York and returned to California at an early age. Renee grew up in
church and music has always been a part of her life. She started by
directing at her dad’s church and later began to write and direct for
local church’s and workshop choirs throughout the city. Renee’s
musical talents earned her local title “Assistant Directress” for the
state young adult choir under the leadership of Bishop Charles Blake,
and the Full Gospel Baptist Church Mass Choir (Southern CA) under the
movement of Bishop Paul S. Morton. In 1993 Renee
formed “Prosperity Crusade Choir” (later named “Prosperity”) and
since the inception God has given Renee and Prosperity much favor.
In 1995
Renee Spearman & Prosperity released their first CD on the Grace/Tyscot
label entitled “Change the World”. In 1999 the second debut was
released on the R.E.G. Recordings Gospel label entitled “From
a Songwriter’s Perspective” which featured Dr. Bobby Jones,
Keisha Ealy (formerly of the Kurt Carr Singers) and Gospocentric
Recording Artist, Min. Byron Cage. On January 19, 2002 Renee
Spearman & Prosperity released a CD single entitled “Celebrate”
under the BlackSphere/Drae label.
Renee
Spearman & Prosperity have performed at the world famous “House
of Blues “, “Warner Bros. Televisions’ fall kick off
party, “A Gospel Celebration for the Los Angeles Sparks Game
at the Great Western Forum”, “A Tribute to Arnold
Schwarezenegger at the Beverly Hill’s Hotel”, and ”Disneyland
Parks Gospel Celebration”; they have also appeared on BET’S
Program “Bobby Jones Gospel”, and the television Sitcom “Sister
Sister”, along with Grammy Award winner and Recording Artist, Kirk
Franklin.
Although
Renee Spearman & Prosperity’s music is often described as energetic
and bumping, the message is not compromised; the message is “THE
GOSPEL”.
